Energy
A global benchmark for high-stress generator and motor rotors: Björneborg Steel is an established world leader in manufacturing massive rotor shafts for international power generation and heavy machinery sectors. Supplying the world’s most recognized OEMs, we deliver high-purity forgings engineered to withstand continuous operational loads across the energy landscape.
We manufacture heavy rotor shafts for global energy networks.
We specialize in the complex production of large rotor shafts for industrial generators and high-voltage electric motors. Our components serve as the core architecture in power plants worldwide, built to withstand immense centrifugal forces with a minimum of residual stresses, avoiding any vibrations. Beyond electrical power generation, we manufacture heavy-duty shafts for the global hydro power sector, ensuring long-term structural reliability under continuous hydraulic pressure.

Forged solutions for mining, pulp and paper, and metal processing.
Our engineering capabilities extend deep into primary heavy industries that operate under severe mechanical fatigue. Björneborg Steel is a critical tier-one supplier of heavy shafts for the mining sector, processing equipment for the pulp and paper industry, and heavy-duty rolls for the demanding steel and metals manufacturing markets. We tailor the metallurgical density of every forging to handle the high loads and sometimes abrasive environments native to these sectors.

High-purity rotor forgings engineered for continuous rotational stability.
Large-scale power generation and heavy industrial processing leave zero margin for component failure or unexpected downtime. Rotor shafts operating inside generators and industrial motors must maintain absolute geometric precision and mass balance while spinning under extreme torsional stresses for decades. To satisfy these operational demands, Björneborg Steel utilizes a completely integrated, single-site manufacturing process in Sweden. By managing everything from initial electric arc furnace melting to custom open-die forging and final precision alignment, we eliminate structural inconsistencies or internal macro-segregation.
Alloy purity is critical when forging heavy rotor cores and industrial rolls. Our melt shop produces clean steel with highly controlled chemical profiles, minimizing trace elements that can lead to micro-cracking over millions of rotational cycles. Following the forging phase, these heavy components undergo specialized heat treatment sequences to achieve a uniform hardness distribution across varying diameters, ensuring predictable mechanical performance from the shaft ends to the main rotor body.
To guarantee compliance with strict international OEM standards and energy sector regulations, every component is subjected to exhaustive internal validation. Our in-house testing labs execute rigorous non-destructive testing (NDT), including ultrasonic inspection (UT) to map the entire internal volume of the forging, alongside magnetic particle testing (MT) for surface integrity. This transparent data loop and full material certification streamline the procurement process for global power system developers and heavy industrial plant operators.
