Centuries of proven excellence in maritime manufacturing: Björneborg Steel delivers critical forged components for global commercial and naval fleets. From single-piece propulsion shafts to high-integrity components for modern POD systems, our proven track record guarantees reliable performance under the harshest maritime conditions.
Manufacturing large-scale propulsion shafts up to 24 meters.
Our deep-rooted relationship with the maritime sector enables us to manufacture massive components that very few forges worldwide can accommodate. We routinely produce heavy propulsion shafts up to 24 meters in length with a single-piece weight reaching 40 tons. Backed by thousands of successful global deliveries, our fully integrated manufacturing line ensures unmatched structural integrity and material cleanliness for long-term ocean operations.

Engineering solutions for critical propulsion components.
Modern propulsion designs demand steel forgings capable of handling multidirectional fatigue and intense localized stresses. Where conventional casting and legacy material configurations have historically failed, Björneborg Steel provides advanced forged steel solutions. By optimizing the grain orientation and refining the metallurgy in our melt shop, we manufacture highly resilient, critical structural components that eliminate structural vulnerabilities.

Fully certified marine forgings designed for heavy open-ocean loads.
The commercial shipping, cruise, and naval vessel industries demand total operational reliability, where material fatigue or structural failures result in catastrophic logistical costs. Björneborg Steel mitigates these operational risks by controlling the entire metallurgical value chain on a single production site in Sweden. From processing selected recycled scrap in our electric arc furnace to performing final precision machining, our engineering teams ensure that every large-scale forging satisfies the rigid specifications of international marine classification societies.
Our forging hall specializes in heavy open-die free-form forging, a process that physically presses the ingot to refine its internal crystal structure. This mechanical working ensures a continuous grain flow matching the final contours of the shafting line or POD component. By pairing this structural density with customized heat treatments, we achieve uniform mechanical properties throughout the entire cross-section of a 40-ton component.
To satisfy international maritime auditors, our site features comprehensive, in-house testing laboratories. Every marine shaft line and structural housing is verified via non-destructive testing (NDT), including ultrasonic testing (UT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and magnetic particle testing (MT). This level of data transparency and strict adherence to global classifications societies guidelines ensures seamless project execution and immediate approval for global shipyard installation.
Quality in everything we do
